- Bio
I'm a master's student in European History at the University of Montana. I moved from the coal fields of south-west VA after getting my undergraduate at UVA Wise. Although I was an A.J. fan prior to moving to Montana, the experience of leaving Appalachia has given me a true sense of of my folk mountain heritage. "I left with no sense of where I came from and a vague idea of where I meant to go." My grandfather was a moonshiner turned coal miner who lived on the Devil's Apron who died of black lung in the mid-70s. In my opinion A.J.'s music is the most powerful artistic tribute to the Appalachian folk identity, It has helped me to find myself and ensured that the 2,200 mile connection remains strong.
